This month, Prep to Year 6 Concordia Lutheran College staff embarked on a Learning Design Workshop amalgamating inquiry practice with the project-based learning methodology. During this workshop teachers took on roles such as ‘teacher as a listener’, ‘teacher as inquirer’, and ‘teacher as learner’ to support the learning design processes and to bring to life the College’s new vision “Inspiring Lifelong Learners, Critical Thinkers, and Caring Citizens in a Christian Community”. Thank you to our learning partners at St John’s Bundaberg Jocelyn Bakker for connecting with us during this workshop.
We used a set of trusted learning design tools and approaches including Kath Murdoch resources, PBLWorks frameworks and Visible Thinking Routines for little people to ensure our approach was evidence-informed. We all look forward to parts two and three of this process as we continue to unpack our PBL playbook:
- equal emphasis on learning processes content and outcomes
- student ‘voice’ is evident
- prior knowledge and learning evidence are essential.
- students are actively involved in learning
- learning takes place in social contexts
- tight routines and structures for project time
- strong foundations in numeracy and literacy
Also, this month, Redeemer Lutheran College engaged in a hands-on learning environment day. A group of teachers from Redeemer Lutheran College had the pleasure and privilege of working with consultant Jane Mueller last week in their first learning space design workshop. Academic staff had the opportunity to dream BIG while remaining true to their faith, College values and history. The group used the Walt Disney Creative Strategy as the toolkit to bridge the gap between imagination and reality. We look forward to seeing the final roadmap and outcomes as they embark on the learning space transformation journey.
