On the morning of Wednesday 5 February, the Redeemer Lutheran College Chapel was full of joy. More than 1,100 students from prep to Year 12, their teachers, school staff, and invited guests came together to welcome their new Principal, Mr Darrin Schumacher.
When Mr Schumacher was asked by a Year 1 student if he was now ‘the boss of the whole school’, he quipped back: “No, you’re the boss. Because I serve you”. Mr Schumacher’s words demonstrate the servant leadership he brings to the role.
As Dr Mark Vainikka shared in his address, guiding young minds is not something one can do alone. Colleague Principals from Bethania Lutheran School, Faith Lutheran College – Plainland, Faith Lutheran College Redlands, Good News Lutheran School, Grace Lutheran College, Lutheran Ormeau Rivers District School (LORDS), St Andrews Lutheran College, and Trinity Lutheran College joined to share their blessings with Mr Schumacher.
Members of the College Council, Ms Corrine McMillan MP, and invited guests from across the wider LEQ, Lutheran Education Australia, Lutheran Youth of Queensland, Our Saviour congregation, and the Lutheran Church of Australia Queensland District communities were also in attendance.
The event, led by Bishop Dr Mark Vainikka and LEQ Executive Director Tanya Crooks, marks a new chapter of nurturing the minds, hearts, and spirits of each member of the Redeemer family. May God continue to work through Mr Schumacher.
“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
