What is the Queensland Ready Reading Program (QRR)?
The Queensland Ready Reading (QRR) volunteer program is an initiative in partnership with Volunteering Queensland to train volunteers to support children’s reading in schools across Queensland.
Ready Reading volunteers work with individual children, particularly in the early years, to listen to students read aloud and provide reading support. Under the direction of the classroom teacher, they talk to students about the text and its meaning. This one-to-one engagement will assist students to become confident and independent in their reading.
Ready Reading training complements current approaches to literacy teaching and learning. Volunteers receive training to work one-to-one with individual students, listening to them read aloud and providing support.
Can non-state schools access Ready Reading volunteers?
Yes, Ready Reading volunteers are able to work in state, Catholic and Independent schools. The Ready Reading state manager in collaboration with Volunteering Queensland and coordinators from Queensland Catholic Education Commission and Independent Schools Queensland, will connect volunteers with registered schools.
