On Saturday 7 September, 2019, Peace Lutheran College in Cairns held its 25-year celebration. It was wonderful to welcome past and present staff, students, community members and guests to the event to share memories and to reflect on the history of our school. 1994, doesn’t seem that long ago, but a quarter of a century is a significant amount of time. A lot has happened in those 25 years, and in the life of Peace Lutheran College, it’s momentous. A lot of memories have been formed and a lot of friendships made.
This celebration marked the culmination of a 25-year story, a story with a humble beginning and a group of very dedicated, hard-working staff, parents and community members. The goal, and driving force back then, was the desire to provide a high quality, Christian education to the students in far north Queensland and those from further afield. A lot has changed in the last 25 years, however, this goal has not.
In regards to resources we have come a long way since 1994; we now have purpose built, air-conditioned buildings, the choir no longer performs under a tarp, we no longer have chapels out under the sun, we no longer have to put chairs out, and stack them again for assemblies in the Multi-Purpose Centre. But Peace is not about buildings, although these are nice to have, we are about people and relationships. This has not changed. I feel very blessed and humbled to have been part of Peace’s story.
