Queensland Lutheran school learning spaces are not the usual run-of-the-mill classrooms. Peace Lutheran Primary School at Gatton are no exception! Year 5 are currently trialling new and innovative project in their classroom – BYOP (Bring Your Own Plant). This project has been inspired by the work of Professor Stephen Heppell, a world expert on contemporary learning, specialising in online education and learning spaces.
There are many benefits to the BYOP program at school, one of which is to increase the oxygen levels in the classroom. Better oxygen brings behaviour, engagement, wellbeing and other gains.
In addition students take ownership of their plants and develop skills to nurture and grow them. Their plants are named and have become part of their learning environment.
An added bonus is that Peace is the first Lutheran School to take up this challenge and our Lutheran Director of Innovation Derek Bartels has promised a prize, can’t wait to see what that is!
