Collaborative Professionalism

Last week the Lutheran Education Queensland Secretariat Leadership Team engaged in a day with Andy Hargreaves. The team analysed the evidence, pondered over examples and applied the learnings in hands-on activities in relation to Collaborative Professionalism. Andy helped us to focus on the process of transitioning from professional collaboration to collaborative professionalism

If you don’t have his latest book then here is a good summary>>

Some notable quotes:

  • “No profession can serve people effectively if its members do not share and exchange knowledge about their expertise or about their clients, patients or students they have in common”
  • “We shouldn’t base our education strategic decisions on solely utilizing 27yr old teachers…  -not realistic within today’s educational landscape”
  • “Solidarity and Solidity is needed for Collaborative Professionalism” related links here >> and here >>
  • “Contrived Collegiality” be aware of being told what, when, who, where and how to collaborate and what conclusions should occur
  • It’s always about good relationships  -“It’s hard to eat people you have had a relationship with!”
  • “Lead Up” during Collaboration – Leaders get tired – say to them “it’s ok we will get there as we collaborate together”
