On 12 March, Learning Environments Australasia, Queensland will be hosting an Outdoor Learning Spaces Afternoon Event at Videopro Conference Centre, Eagle Farm. A second event will follow in later weeks with some onsite visits to such Outdoor Learning Spaces.
Registration has not yet opened however the event is described below:
The School Landscape: An Opportunity for Outdoor Learning
The sub-tropical climate of Southern Queensland affords an enviable opportunity to embrace indoor-outdoor living (and learning). However, the statistics report an increasing number of children living a sedentary lifestyle; spending more ‘screen’ time than ever before which is having detrimental impacts of child development, health and learning ability.
With increased urbanisation and a shift in parenting approach is contributing to a reduced active lifestyle of children outside of school hours, meaning that schools will increasingly have to embrace approaches that compensate for this by providing children an active and outdoor connection (to nature) for the child’s well-being.
Coupled with this is the prospect of developing learning spaces outside of the building would capitalise on under-utilised spaces within the school grounds.
This event will explore opportunities that seek to address some of these issues.
