What is so important about being kind to others?
Does it really matter if you are a kind person?
Isn’t it nice to know that someone has gone out of their way to do something nice or thoughtful for you? Sometimes it can be a pleasant smile, a warm handshake, sending an email or a card, inviting someone over for dinner, or helping a neighbour, especially when in need. We remember that single act of kindness.
Kindness in Action
When we think of the last couple of weeks and the Olympics over in Japan, we need to consider that there is much more to the Olympics than gold medals, world fame and fierce competition.
Athletes from all over the world come together for the ultimate medal, but also display amazing acts of kindness. We see some athletes sharing their accomplishments, some athletes giving others a pep-talk and even some athletes crossing the finishing line together.
At a time when COVID 19 continues to cause lockdowns, mandatory wearing of masks, businesses closing down, people out of work and mental health becoming an ever-increasing concern amongst all ages, one has to be uplifted by the display of kindness shown by athletes toward their team-mates and other competitors at the Olympics. The Olympic spirit is all about perseverance through the tough times and situations.
What does the Bible say about kindness?
Psalm 63:3 “Your love and kindness are better than life itself”.
Psalm 136:1 “Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good. His love endures forever”.
God extended his kindness to you and me by sending his only Son Jesus to the world to die on a cross to save us. Can you think of a greater act of kindness?
