I am not particularly handy around the house. I can change the washer in a tap and the spark plugs on my mower, but unfortunately my mentor in this area, my father, was even less handy than me. I changed his bathroom washers. And changed his spark plugs for that matter.
So when I buy a new washing machine, dishwasher or other electrical appliance, I always take the option of paying someone to come do the installation for me. Someone with far more capacity than me comes in, puts the appliance in position, connects any pipes, “plugs it in to the power supply” and then turns the appliance on to see that it is working as it should. Ready, set, go!
In the first month of the 2020 school year I have had the pleasure of attending and participating in a number of installations – of Principals, senior school leaders, pastors and new staff. Installation services are important to the Church. The wording used by the Bishop when he installs Principals reads:
…you have been called/appointed as the principal of ABC Lutheran School. You are required to teach and act in accordance with God’s word as confessed by the Lutheran church. Do you intend to carry out your duties faithfully?
This coming Sunday, Simon Hughes will be installed as Principal at Prince of Peace Lutheran College at the Congregation’s service commencing at 9am. I know that a number of you will be present to show your support for Simon in his vocation.
May God bless Simon and all new leaders and staff in Lutheran schools and Services in 2020.
They have now officially been ‘plugged in to God’ through His Word, the Gospel, and ‘’turned on” to commence their important service to the students, staff wider community.
