As we enter Term 2, I trust that everyone had a well-deserved break over the Easter weekend and longer, if at all possible, after such a difficult Term 1 to begin the school year.
Now, here we are more than a quarter of the way through the year, and what a start to Term 2, with a couple of long weekends. These weekends can either slowly work us into the term or we find that the short weeks hide the build-up of jobs that we have to do in a shorter amount of time.
So, at these times are we guilty of not taking a break from work and if we do, do we find ourselves feeling guilty because we took the time to have rest. Are we guilty of checking our emails and phone calls instead of resting?
My rest is in my garden, I love pottering around my garden, Bunnings is my holiday shack! My garden is a space, a place where I can work physically but have a peaceful mindset. The place and space allows me to rest my mind and spirit from the usual day to day work.
Rest is important to your spiritual walk with the Lord, and many Christians today don’t appreciate the value of rest. Rest allows our mind, body, and soul to renew and start with even more strength and focus. Scripture is filled with God’s promises to provide rest when we seek Him. God is an endless source of peace and strength and He created us to need Him!
So even though we have lots of jobs to do, make sure to have a rest at every opportunity. Whilst God says that he will take care of us, we have a responsibility to look after ourselves too. Remember, even if it is working in the garden, walking the dog or playing with the children or grandchildren, or just sitting down and enjoying a cuppa and possibly a good book, it is different to the everyday work that we do.
Enjoy the opportunity of the long weekend ahead of us.
Have a great Term 2.
