Exploring stories, photos and perspectives at State Library Queensland
I am always amazed by the amount of free activities and experiences on offer in Brisbane. State Library Queensland (SLQ) is one place in the cultural precinct of Southbank that offers a range of interesting exhibits and opportunities for learning.
Last Friday 12 of us gathered at SLQ for an end of year Service-Learning get-together, to explore some of the art exhibits and learn about First Nations’ culture, perspectives, and stories. It was particularly interesting to have the chief editor from Black and Write (Indigenous writer’s organisation) curate the ‘Sovereign Stories’ exhibit for us.
It was thought-provoking to consider how we can ‘listen’ to stories, through different artforms.
Next year we will be continuing the conversation in the space of First Nations’ perspectives and explore how we can develop rich connections and relationships in this space, within our school communities.
