In the quiet ordinary space of a kitchen, even something as simple as an egg carton can become a witness to the Gospel. When opening a carton of GoldHen eggs from Aldi in the US, one might expect only breakfast ingredients. Yet inside the lid appears the words of Psalm 118:24: “This is the day which the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.”

The Bible verse tradition originates from US egg supplier Rose Acre Farms. The farm’s founder, David W. Rust, a devout Christian, began printing the verse on egg cartons in 1980 because it held special significance to him. Aldi purchases eggs from this supplier, so the scripture appears on the cartons as part of the product packaging. This practice has been consistent for decades and has received widespread appreciation from customers across the United States.

What does quiet and not-so-quiet Christian witness look like in one of our LEQ schools or services across the state? Is there an invitation to staff, students and families to encounter more than words – to encounter the living promise of Easter?

In Lutheran Education Queensland learning communities, symbols matter. Eggs, crosses, candles, and open Bibles placed on classroom altars remind students that Christ meets us in the everyday. As Lutheran schools and services gather in daily devotions and worship, they are communities ‘sharing and living the good news of Jesus Christ’. These moments – like lighting a candle, reading Scripture, singing – form hearts in faith.

Easter declares that life comes from death. The egg, sealed and silent, becomes a sign of the empty tomb. Likewise, Christ opens what was closed – just as LCAQD speaks of the ‘open door to spiritual renewal’, we are invited to walk in baptismal grace and renewed life.

So where is the place for Christ in our world? He is here: in classrooms, in worship services, in quiet devotions, and even in small surprises inside an egg carton. Christ is present wherever His Word is heard and received. Worship itself is an encounter with Him, shaping lives through His grace.

“This is the day…” Psalm 118:24 reads. Not just Easter Sunday, but every day – claimed, redeemed, and filled with resurrection hope.
